Localization
Localization includes various other services in addition to the translation process itself. Localization is a term used in IT to mean the adapting of software (including games and websites etc.) to the market of the target language in each case. Additional skill and know-how besides the necessary knowledge of computer technology is required here.
Here are some of the additional services we offer:
DTP
When translations are produced using so-called TM systems, text and layout are separated. After exporting the translation from the working environment, it is necessary to check the layout and adapt it to the text in the new language. Translations from English into most other languages can be at least 30% longer than the original. Knowledge of DTP is therefore required in order to make the target texts in the various programmes such as QuarkXpress, Adobe InDesign or Adobe FrameMaker look the same as in the source texts. If you cannot do this yourself or do not want to do it, we can handle it for you.
Egineering
Various different work steps fall under the term "Engineering":
- Extracting texts
- Converting texts for processing in the TM system
- Compiling the online help files
- Preparing (and if necessary compiling) translation memories
- Adapting the user interface (button size, keyboard commands in menus, sorting orders, date format changes ...)

You develop high-end software but don’t just want to offer it on the domestic market. You want your programmes to be successful in other languages too and need an interface which meets the specific requirements of the target markets involved. We can translate the programme interface and localize it for you.
In order to preserve consistency throughout a variety of text types, we can also translate the necessary manuals, online help files and training materials for you.
We usually translate from the foreign language (mainly English) into German. We also have native speakers to translate from German (or English) into the foreign language required in each case. Our main focus is on the field of B2B software: ERP (enterprise resource planning), CRM (customer relationship management), e-sales, e-service, workflow management, data warehousing, WMS (warehouse management systems), SCM (supply chain management) and PLM (product lifecycle management).
For translation and localization, we use so-called translation memory systems and the necessary databases for terminology management. The systems we use here include the following:
